Rain, rain go away… pretty please

Mother Nature got the holiday weekend off to a noisy start Friday with a display of lightening and rolling thunder. Over an inch of rain fell in under an hour during the evening commute from what the National Weather Service is calling "a stationary thunderstorm."

As usual, roadways around the Aventura Mall were more like lakes and an "urban flood advisory" was in effect well into the evening. By the time the skies cleared, rain totals had passed 2.5 inches across the area. That made Aventura-Sunny Isles Beach one of the wettest spots on what the weather service says was the driest day this week region wide.

All this comes just a day after the area was briefly under a tornado warning after a wall cloud was sighted near the Miami Gardens interchange of I-95. Aventura and Sunny Isles Beach picked up over an inch of rain from that storm.

Forecasters are holding out hope the sun might put in an appearance Tuesday. Until then,  keep your umbrella handy and keep an eye out for the ark.
