The Sunny Isles Beach park building juggernaut is poised to take another step forward Thursday evening.

That's when the City Commission will take up a plan to purchase a small shopping center at 16100 Collins Ave. The city is prepared to pay $4.8 million to Malibu Plaza on the Bay LLC for the property on the west side of Collins Avenue.

The goal is to turn the site into a park along the lines of Oceania Park, City Manager Rick Conner says.

The commission meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. July 16 at Government Center.
