Suspect in theft of generators found dead

A Sunrise man wanted by Aventura police in connection with the theft of a dozen power generators from a construction site was found dead in his truck at Miami International Airport.

The death of Christopher Burch remains under investigation by Miami-Dade police.

An employee of Universal Drywall and Plaster of Miramar told police that sometime between the evening of June 22 and the morning of June 24, 12 of the 14 generators the company was using for construction work at Classic Residence by Hyatt had been taken. There was no sign of forced entry.

Police said a surveillance video showed Burch, an employee of Universal, removing the generators, valued at over $14,000, from a storage room and loading them into his vehicle.

Police searched pawn shops in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, locating two of the generators and linking them to Burch.

Aventura officers were almost two weeks into their pursuit of Burch when they learned July 7 that Burch's body had been found at the airport. Two other generators were found in Burch's vehicle.

Airport security video shows Burch driving into a parking garage about 10 p.m. June 30.

  1. Burch was deceased on June 24th. The reciept was in his car and police were not investigating ****. I filed a missing police report and told them about this cell phone log with I offered to the police at the time I made the report. There was no search of the vehicle once the body was found. ALL receipts for the generators taken were found inthe car as well, BY ME when I took possession. The police did NOTHING!!!!!

  2. I spoke to the police on June 29th and was told there was no warrant out for his arrest. I found this strange since there was a stolen property report filed. Frustrated I withdrew $1,300 to hire a private investigator since his phone records indicated where he could probably be found. Had the police ACTED on the information GIVEN DIRECTLY AFTER THE ROBBERY, chances are Christopher would still be alive today.
I think it's safe to say the people requesting donations by phone better not call me!

  3. I would also like to add that there is no further investigations going on as per the detectives Jorge Alonso and James Gallagher.

    Thank you.
