A Lauderhill man has been arrested after police say he tried to break into the home of Golden Beach's mayor, the Miami Herald is reporting.

The incident occured about 11 p.m. Friday. Neighbors called police who responded with an officer and a police dog. The suspect fled by diving into the Intracoastal Canal but was picked up by Aventura's marine unit.

Mayor Glenn Singer is vacationing in Colorado.
