Venture East target of burglars

Aventura police reports from Aug. 11-17:

It was a big week for burglars.

A Venture East security guard alerted police to an open door on a unit Aug. 14. Police searched the unit on NE 29th Avenue and found the place ransacked “from the front door through the bedrooms, bathroom, closets, kitchen and even the clothes dryer.” There were pry marks on the front door frame and evidence that the dead bolt had been forced. A witness told police of seeing a tall man in his late 20s with a short Afro leaving the unit. The unit owner was out of town so no inventory of missing items was available.

The incident was one of four police investigated at Venture East.

On Aug. 17, Yilian Gonzales, the property manager, told police that while making routine rounds she’d found indications that locks had been tampered with on two adjacent units on the sixth floor and another on the 10th. It was not clear that any of the units had been entered and the owners reported nothing missing.

Police were called to Lincoln Point’s Building 3 on NE 31st Court Aug. 14 to investigate another burglary. Jennifer Skiles told officers a computer valued at $800 and a “Rambo-style knife” were taken and the entire unit ransacked. Entry had been gained by cutting a screen on a first-floor patio, then breaking a glass door.

Businesses weren’t immune.

Matt Coplan of Courtyard by Marriott on NE 191st Street  told police someone had attempted to break in to five vending machines on the second through fifth floors of the hotel. There were pry marks on the sides of each unit but none had been opened and no money had been taken.
