Hot days, short fuses keep Aventura police busy

Maybe it’s the heat. Maybe it’s the humidity. Whatever it is, Aventura residents are turning on each other at an alarming rate.

During the week of Aug. 18-24, Aventura police handled a rash of assault and battery cases including:

  • A man slapped his sister around, apparently because she kissed a man while celebrating her birthday. The woman declined to press charges.
  • Two men slugged each other in a Publix parking lot in a dispute over whether one of the men touched the other’s BMW. There were no witnesses who could say who started the fight and neither of the men wanted to press charges.
  • Two women got into a hair pulling fight outside Justin’s club at 17813 Biscayne Blvd. while trying to find help with a disabled car.
  • Neighbors at Point East got into a skirmish because one had parked her car in the other’s assigned spot.
  • A Comcast technician was hit with a roll of coaxial cable after a customer at Commodore Plaza thought he was taking too long to fix her Internet connection.
  • Friends helping a man move out of El Dorado III got into it with a security guard who told them moving furniture wasn’t allowed on weekends.
  • A domestic dispute at Aventura Lakes escalated into aggravated battery when a man apparently hit his pregnant girlfriend in the back of the head with a dumbbell.
  • A woman was arrested for simple battery after she yelled and spat at a Parc Central security guard she believed had had her car towed the previous week because it lacked an up-to-date decal.
