Creditors of the troubled Fontainebleau Las Vegas project have asked a Miami judge to change the pending bankruptcy proceeding from a Chapter 11 reorganization to a Chapter 7 liquidation of assets, the South Florida Business Journal is reporting.

The business weekly cites court papers in which creditors argue there is no hope of the developer -- Fontainebleau resorts LLC led by Aventura's Jeffrey Soffer -- rehabilitating the project and that a sale is the only way creditors can be paid. The creditors also are asking the court to remove Soffer from the project.
