Gulfstream to open glitzy club, book major acts
Park, Gulfstream Park.
In a bit of an entertainment time-warp, the area’s race track and casino is invoking the spirit of film spy James Bond with a glitzy new Brit-themed nightclub called MI-VI. Bond, Ian Fleming's fashionable and glamorous super agent, was an employee of Britain’s MI6 intelligence service.
Gerry Kelly – the man who brought South Beach such trendy nightspots as Liquid, Level, Pacha and the Shadow Lounge – has been hired to work his magic in the second-floor space that previously housed The Sport of Kings Lounge.
“This is where the House of Windsor meets Studio 54,” said the 47-year-old Irishman. His plans include a heavy dose of celebrity power tempered with an appreciation of the regulars. “Celebrities come and go but the regulars are our steady clientele,” he said.
The new venue is scheduled to open Nov. 27, the day after Thanksgiving.
“While plans are still in the works, one of the things I’m looking forward to doing at Gulfstream is a concert series with major acts,” he said.
One can only hope Gulfstream will be stirred, not shaken in the process.
