Gulfstream Park names Dunn as interim GM

Gulfstream Park has wasted no time in naming a replacement for Bill Murphy, who abruptly resigned Oct. 29 as president and CEO of the race track and casino.

Taking over as interim president and general manager is Ken Dunn, a veteran administrator with broad experience at a handful of race tracks.

Beginning in 1976, Dunn has served as president and/or general manager at Arlington, Atlantic City and the Fair Grounds preceded an 18-year stint at Calder. His knowledge of the business of the sport covers the frontside, where he worked as a mutuels clerk and group-sales director; the backside, where he worked as a groom for leading trainer David Vance, and the administrative end – his first racetrack job was as a claims clerk at Monmouth Park.

Dunn, who holds a B.A. in History from the University of Pennsylvania, has held seats on the United Way of Broward County and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce boards, and he is active in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Mentor Program.

Greg Rayburn, Magna Entertainment Corp.’s chief executive officer stated “with the new meet around the corner and with the grand opening of our retail center we are very pleased to have someone with Ken Dunn’s qualifications and reputation to solidify Gulfstream Park as the destination track for winter racing in North America.”

Dunn is a native of Southern New Jersey and he and his wife, Jody, have been married 40 years. They have two children – a daughter, Lauren, and a son, Christopher, a college professor – and two grandchildren.
