Aventura hikes building permit fees 15%
The Aventura City Commission has approved an increase in building permit fees averaging 15 percent.
In a unanimous vote Nov. 3, commissioners authorized the first such fee increase since 2000. Community Development Director Joanne Carr recommended the action to keep the city’s fee structure in line with fees charged by Miami-Dade County, which raised fees in August.
The new plan calls for a hike in the minimum fee from $100 to $130. It also calls for payment of half the fee at the time of application with the remainder due when the permit is issued.
Carr estimates that fees on a $10,000 kitchen remodeling project will increase from $903 to $1033.
Also at the Nov. 3 meeting, Commissioner Luz Weinberg was named vice mayor, replacing Commissioner Teri Holzberg. The title rotates among the commissioners every six months.
