Photos offer new twist in Kaufman homicide case

Lawyers for Adam Kaufman, the Aventura developer charged with killing his wife two years ago, used a court hearing Dec, 7 to introduce photographs  they claim show prosecutors have been hiding evidence that could clear Kaufman.

The latest twists in the high-profile case are reported by Ari Odzer of NBC’s TV-6 (http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local-beat/hoping-for-a-perry-mason-moment-78735627.html) .

Kaufman’s wife, Eleonora, was found dead in the bathroom of the family home in November 2007. Kaufman argues she collapsed after having a reaction to a spray tan treatment. The medical examiner ruled it a homicide and Kaufman was charged. After initially being denied bail, a judge reversed course and granted Kaufman conditional release so that he could take care of his two children.

Kaufman was hauled before a judge this week because prosecutors think he’s been playing fast and loose with terms of his release on bail. The GPS ankle monitor he’s been wearing shows he was out at a restaurant on a Saturday night. He says it was a business meeting; prosecutors argue it was a violation and asked the judge to toss Kaufman back in jail.

Kaufman won that round and remains free on bail. And his lawyers were able to introduce the new photographic evidence which they argue show that investigators missed or covered up trace evidence that support Kaufman’s version of events.

The next court date is Dec. 18.
