Village complex to open with ‘Carnivalia’ events
A four-day 'Carnivalia' will celebrate the grand opening of The Village at Gulfstream Park Feb. 11 -14.
The plans were announced Dec. 9 by officials of Forest City, the retail center's developer, and Gulfstream Park race track and casino.
Plans call for Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper to cut the ceremonial ribbon opening the complex at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11. Entertainment and a street fair will continue through the day as shoppers explore the dozens of new shops and restaurants. At 6:30 p.m., a grand opening show will feature performers and musicians with a Latin American flavor, including performers dressed in elaborate Carnival-style costumes. The weekend is the last before Mardi Gras and follows Super Bowl week in Miami.

The Village at Gulfstream Park nears completion.
On Friday, Feb. 12, the Village and Greenhouse Nightclub will host a free music celebration and street festival.
Entertainment and special events sponsored by individual retailers will continue throughout the weekend.
Forest City officials led a media tour of the site which showed a significant amount of work remains before opening day for most retailers. Crate & Barrel, at the north end of the project, and the Texas de Brasil restaurant have already opened.
When completed, the project will include 1 million square feet with 1,500 residential units and a hotel. The total price has been set at $244.7 million.
Forest City officials said 85 percent of the retail space has been leased and added eight new names to the list of tenants:
* Cafe Martier, featuring coffe, pastry and gourmet sandwiches;
* Expose, a boutique owned by Martier offering apparel for mature women;
* Martier Lingerie, a third Martier property;
* Liapela Modern Baby;
* Jacob's Classic Market;
* Charles Lauren Fine Jewelers;
* Full Bodied Wine & Spa, offering an innovative of wine and wellness;
* And Yardhouse, an upscale eatery that claims the world's largest selection of draft beer. This restaurant completes the dining complex adjacent to the race track's walking ring.
